We work with families and parents to begin the process of trust and communication. We have parent weekends where we engage in Multi-family group and educational seminars to teach about boundaries, enmeshment, co-dependency and appropriate family roles. We believe parents can play a vital role in stepping back and allowing their son or daughter to become an adult.
New Roads Family Philosophy
New Roads offers a new way to try and approach the issues families face. We hope it is something that helps the whole family, even though we primarily have the focus on the individual and their need to change.
Our family program is unique in that we will not only focus on presenting problems, but we also invite you to take advantage of the opportunities provided here as we extend ourselves to you and to your family. Opportunities to look at your own identity, your “identity” within the family system, and all of the changes you may want to begin making yourself in how you approach life. We believe there is an opportunity to look at yourself and that perhaps you and your family will be able to see things differently and to do things differently. However, progress always relies upon what you choose to do or not do.
What we created is something we really believe in called an Identity/Developmental Model of treatment. We focus on really helping our clients and their family figure out some the basic life questions that ALL humans face. It boils down to “who am I and what should I be doing, both every day and with my whole life in general”. So from society’s viewpoint we might be labeled a drug addict, or bi-polar, or one of those people that “just doesn’t” get it, or a parent who is “shut down” and having trouble connecting but at New Roads we see you as the whole person, not just a bunch of labels.
Yes, your loved one needs to focus on the things that are hurting them or holding them back, and that’s what they are here to do. That’s why it is also an opportunity for you. We welcome “the labels” – things like “angry dad” –“worried mom”, but who are we as people and how do we reconnect as a family?? So the larger aspect of life is being content with our choices and who we are, so everything we do, from family work on focus on finding an individual and family identity that works and is easier to live with. We teach you not just coping skills, but living strategies, to deal with addiction, mood disorders, family and personal issues, and event’s both past and present that stop you from feeling like you have worth and are getting somewhere in life.
