New Roads Drug Detox program is open to any adult and offers a medically supervised comprehensive social detoxification for alcohol, opioids (morphine, Heroin, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone), benzodiazepines (Xanax & Valium), marijuana (drugs with THC), and stimulants (cocaine & amphetamines). Our board certified physician utilizes the most up-to-date protocols to ensure patients are comfortable during their detoxification, experiencing minimal withdrawal symptoms, which helps ensure they complete their detox.

Our detoxification includes a set of interventions aimed at clearing toxins from the body and safely and comfortably managing an individual through acute intoxication and withdrawal. At New Roads, detoxification seeks to minimize the physical harm caused by the abuse of substances. Our medically supervised detoxification program, which features around the clock nursing, is designed to prevent potentially life-threatening complications that might appear if the patient was left untreated.

At the same time, detoxification is a form of palliative care (reducing the intensity of a disorder) for those who want to become abstinent or who must observe mandatory abstinence as a result of hospitalization or legal involvement. New Roads detoxification program is not designed to resolve the long-standing psychological, social, and behavioral problems associated with alcohol and drug abuse. It does represent a point of first contact with the treatment system and the first step to recovery. New Roads Detoxification incorporates a broad process with three essential components that may take place concurrently or as a series of steps as outlined by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA):

  1. Evaluation - entails testing for the presence of substances of abuse in the bloodstream, measuring their concentration, and screening for co-occurring mental and physical conditions. Evaluation also includes a comprehensive assessment of the patient's medical and psychological conditions and social situation to help determine the appropriate level of treatment following detoxification. Essentially, the evaluation serves as the basis for the initial substance abuse treatment plan once the patient has been withdrawn successfully.
  2. Stabilization - includes the medical and psychosocial processes of assisting the patient through acute intoxication and withdrawal to the attainment of a medically stable, fully supported, substance-free state. This often is done with the assistance of medications, though in some approaches to detoxification no medication is used. Stabilization includes familiarizing patients with what to expect in the treatment milieu and their role in treatment and recovery. During this time practitioners also seek the involvement of the patient's family, employers, and other significant people when appropriate and with release of confidentiality.
  3. Fostering the patient's entry into treatment- involves preparing the patient for entry into substance abuse treatment by stressing the importance of following through with the complete substance abuse treatment continuum of care. For patients who have demonstrated a pattern of completing detoxification services and then failing to engage in substance abuse treatment, a written treatment contract may encourage entrance into a continuum of substance abuse treatment and care. This contract, which is not legally binding, is voluntarily signed by patients when they are stable enough to do so at the beginning of treatment. In it, the patient agrees to participate in a continuing care plan, with details and contacts established prior to the completion of detoxification.

All three components (evaluation, stabilization, and fostering a patient's entry into treatment) involve treating the patient with compassion and understanding. Patients undergoing detoxification need to know that someone cares about them, respects them as individuals, and has hope for their future. Actions taken during detoxification will demonstrate to the patient that the New Roads’ recommendations can be trusted and followed. Whether you remain within our treatment system or choose another facility better suited for your needs, our program will prepare you for your next step in a drug free lifestyle.

Chemical Dependency Assessment

During a clients stay in Detox we administer several assessments. The first assessment that is utilized is a chemical dependency screening. This interview examines psychoactive substance use and related issues, establishes a baseline and identifies areas of need and issues. The assessment measures seven chemical dependency-related domains: drug use, alcohol use, medical problems, psychiatric issues, legal issues, family/social issues, and employment/support issues. The assessment will also help to determine if there are any psychological issues that would prohibit your loved one from attaining complete recovery, if there are any risks for danger to self or others and if there is any propensity towards mood, personality or cognitive disorders. This assessment also evaluates a client’s treatment and recovery belief systems and determines if there are any indicators that your teen would be resistant to the treatment process.

Psychosocial Assessment

The psychosocial assessment reviews a client’s medical history, family history, leisure and social functioning, developmental history, educational functioning, legal history, drug and alcohol history and any significant events that could impact your teen's treatment process.

Medical Clearance

Each New Roads Client must be medically cleared prior to entering New Roads Treatment Centers.
